Chapter 1

Introduction

What is the RADWIN Online Link Budget Calculator?

The RADWIN Online Link Budget Calculator (RADWIN OLBC) is a web utility accessible from a web browser. It is used to calculate the expected performance of a RADWIN 2000, RADWIN 5000 & WinLink 1000 wireless link and the possible configurations for a specific link range.

The RADWIN OLBC allows you to calculate the expected RSS of the link, and find the type of services and their effective throughput as a function of the link range and deployment conditions.

Which RADWIN Products are Supported?

The RADWIN OLBC may be used to plan RADWIN 2000, RADWIN 5000 HPMP and WinLink 1000 based links. For RADWIN 5000 HPMP, you may use it for HBS to HSU links.

Integration with Google Earth

The RADWIN OLBC works closely with the Google Earth web browser plug-in and the Google Earth program. You can paste Google Earth latitude and longitudes into the Coordinates window of the RADWIN OLBC. It will then show you the Google Earth map segment containing proposed link sites with the terrain cross section.

To effectively use the RADWIN OLBC, you need to install the Google Earth browser plug-in. You do not need the Google Earth program unless you want to set your locations visually and cut and paste them to the RADWIN OLBC. See Appendix B for system requirement and installation details.

To use the RADWIN OLBC with the Google Earth program, see Appendix C.

Antenna Type (cannot be changed for ODU with integrated antenna)

Antenna Gain per site (cannot be changed for integrated antenna)

Cable Loss per site (cannot be changed for integrated antenna)

         Required Fade Margin

         Rate (and Adaptive check box)

         Service Type

Required Range - you may use latitude and longitude coordinates from the Google Earth program. See Appendix C.
